A Witch’s Glossary

Definitions and Further Reading Suggestions from the Moxie Witch

A Glossary

This is, by no means, complete or final. I’m certainly always learning new things, and I encourage you to do the same. As such, below the glossary, you’ll find my suggestions for further reading. I have a Bookshop.org list for a variety of topics. Buying there allows you to help support local bookstores rather than amazon (which is also fine, but options are my favorite thing).

If there’s something I’m missing, let me know! You’ll find a contact form at the bottom of the page.

Charging

No, this is not about your phone, although maybe we should put those outside and under the full moon more often. Charging refers to the act of imbuing the moon or sun’s energy into your items. The moon controls the tides of the ocean, and is symbolic of a menstruating person’s cycle. The moon is constantly changing and on the full moon specifically, or on the summer equinox, you can charge things. It’s like taking the energy of the moon or sun and putting it into your item, tool, or self. Want to dance naked (or clothed) under the full moon? Maybe that means you’re charged with your creative energy.

When charging under the moon, you’re looking for that creative energy to be in your tools or self. Be careful though. Some full moons are pretty chaotic (although I think magick and energy is influenced as much by intention as by the universe around us).

Glamour Magick

The process of changing how the world perceives you by changing the way you look, smell, or appear. Ever seen the difference when a woman or drag queen takes off their full face of makeup? Yep. That’s glamour magick.

Glamour magick is anything you do to intentionally alter your appearance. The way we dress and which clothes we put on is glamour magick. If you’re a person who wears heels, have you ever noticed you feel different when you slip them on? Maybe you feel your bum go up a little and your legs get longer and it puts a little sashay in your step. Or maybe, you have the opposite feeling, and you feel numb and quiet and not yourself.

Want to try doing glamour magick? Next time you put on your deodorant or perfume, try using your intention. “I smell amazing, and people notice me.” or “I smell amazing, and it lets me pass by invisible.”

You’ll be surprised.
